Laete Studio operates this store and website, including all related information, content, features, tools, products and services, in order to provide you, the customer, with a curated shopping experience (the "Services"). Laete Studio is powered by Shopify, which enables us to provide the Services to you. This Privacy Policy describes how we collect, use, and disclose your personal information when you visit, use, or make a purchase or other transaction using the Services or otherwise communicate with us, in accordance with the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and Belgian data protection law. If there is a conflict between our Terms of Service and this Privacy Policy, this Privacy Policy controls with respect to the collection, processing, and disclosure of your personal information.

Please read this Privacy Policy carefully. By using and accessing any of the Services, you acknowledge that you have read this Privacy Policy and understand the collection, use, and disclosure of your information as described here.

Who We Are
For the purposes of the GDPR, the data controller of your personal information is:
Laete Studio, Brusselsesteenweg 222, 1980 Zemst, Belgium
Company number: 1040.114.865 — VAT: BE1040.114.865
Email: hello@laetestudio.com

Personal Information We Collect
When we use the term "personal information," we are referring to information that identifies or can reasonably be linked to you. We may collect or process the following categories of personal information, depending on how you interact with the Services:

  • Contact details including your name, address, billing address, shipping address, phone number, and email address.
  • Financial information including payment card information, transaction details, form of payment, and payment confirmation. (Note: card details are processed directly by our payment provider and Shopify; we do not store full card numbers ourselves.)
  • Account information including your username, password, and preferences.
  • Transaction information including items you view, add to your cart or wishlist, purchase, return, or exchange, and your past orders.
  • Communications with us, including customer support inquiries.
  • Device and usage information including your IP address, browser type, and how you interact with the Services, collected via cookies and similar technologies (see Cookies section below).

Personal Information Sources
We collect personal information directly from you (creating an account, placing an order, contacting us), automatically through your use of the Services (including cookies), from our service providers (such as Shopify and payment processors acting on our behalf), and, where applicable, from marketing or analytics partners.

How We Use Your Personal Information, and Our Legal Basis
We only process your personal information where we have a valid legal basis to do so under the GDPR:

  • Providing the Services (processing orders, payments, shipping, returns, account management, customer support) — necessary to perform our contract with you.
  • Security and fraud prevention, and enforcing our Terms of Service — necessary for our legitimate interest in operating a safe and reliable store, and where necessary to comply with a legal obligation.
  • Marketing communications (email/SMS about products, promotions) — based on your consent, which you may withdraw at any time via the unsubscribe link in any marketing email, or by contacting us.
  • Interest-based advertising and personalization (e.g., through Shopify's advertising features or cookies) — based on your consent, given through our cookie banner, except where strictly necessary cookies are used, which rely on our legitimate interest in operating the site.

Complying with legal obligations, such as Belgian accounting, tax, and consumer-protection law, or responding to lawful requests from authorities — necessary for compliance with a legal obligation.

You have an absolute right, at any time and free of charge, to object to your personal information being used for direct marketing, including any profiling related to such marketing.

Cookies
We use cookies and similar technologies to operate the Services, remember your preferences, and (with your consent) measure site usage and personalize advertising. Non-essential cookies are only placed with your consent, which you can manage at any time through our cookie settings on the site. Strictly necessary cookies (for example, to keep items in your cart) do not require consent.

How We Disclose Personal Information
We may disclose your personal information to: Shopify and other vendors who perform services on our behalf (payment processing, hosting, analytics, fulfillment, shipping); marketing and advertising partners, where you have consented to interest-based advertising; parties you direct us to share information with; and, where required, authorities or other parties in connection with a legal obligation, legal claim, or business transaction such as a merger.

Relationship with Shopify
The Services are hosted by Shopify, which processes personal information about your access to and use of the Services to provide and improve them. Information you submit will be transmitted to and shared with Shopify and, where relevant, other third parties, which may be located outside the European Economic Area, subject to appropriate safeguards. To learn more about how Shopify processes personal information and your related rights, see the Shopify Consumer Privacy Policy and Shopify Privacy Portal.

Third-Party Websites and Links
The Services may link to websites or platforms operated by third parties. We are not responsible for the privacy or security practices of those third parties; please review their own policies before providing them with information.

Children's Data
The Services are not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 16 years old (or under 13, the minimum age at which Belgian law permits a minor to consent to information society services on their own behalf). If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with personal information, please contact us at hello@laetestudio.com so we can delete it.

Security and Retention
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your personal information, though no method of transmission or storage is completely secure. We retain personal information only as long as necessary for the purposes described above. As a general rule: order, invoice, and transaction records are retained for 10 years to comply with Belgian accounting and tax law; account information is retained for as long as your account is active, plus a reasonable period afterward; and marketing consents are retained until you withdraw them.

Your Rights
As a data subject under the GDPR, you have the right to: access the personal information we hold about you; request correction of inaccurate information; request deletion of your information; request a portable copy of your information; object to or request restriction of our processing of your information; and withdraw consent at any time where processing is based on consent (without affecting the lawfulness of processing carried out before withdrawal). To exercise any of these rights, contact us at hello@laetestudio.com. We may need to verify your identity before responding, and will respond within the timeframes required under the GDPR (generally one month).

Complaints
If you have concerns about how we handle your personal information, please contact us first at hello@laetestudio.com. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority. In Belgium, this is the Data Protection Authority (Gegevensbeschermingsautoriteit / Autorité de protection des données): www.autoriteprotectiondonnees.be. If you live elsewhere in the EU, you may instead contact your own national authority — a full list is available from the European Data Protection Board.

International Transfers
Where we or our service providers transfer your personal information outside the European Economic Area, we rely on recognized safeguards such as the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses, unless the destination country has been recognized as providing an adequate level of protection.

Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the revised version here and update the "Last updated" date, and where changes are material, provide additional notice as required by law.
